WordCom, Inc.

Our History

When WordCom was founded in 1981, the banking industry was going through major deregulation and introducing a variety of new products that lent themselves well to quality target marketing.  Since then, the company and its people have become closely involved with the financial industry and its associations.

Company founder and chairman, George Wachtel, has authored many articles on direct mail that have appeared in industry trade publications.  The Bank Advertising News and Bank Marketing Magazine have carried his column, “The Letter Doctor™.”  He is a national speaker, and lectured at the School of Bank Marketing at the University of Colorado for 20 years.

George was president of the BMA’s New England Chapter and was followed by Charles Gross, who also served the president of that association.  WordCom President, Chris Wachtel, started in the business as a teenager and joined the company after graduation from the UCONN School of Business in 1992, with a degree in marketing.

The main office and production facility is located in picturesque Ellington, Connecticut (22 miles northeast of Hartford).
